2 Years, 2 Months

Saylor had a great month of progress.  We finally had to cut her fingernails this week.  This is exciting because we haven't cut them for many, many months because she had a nasty habit of biting her nails. She seemed to have weened away from that herself after we stopped bugging her about it.  In exchange she likes to have her toes and fingernails painted pink.  We finally made some serious progress in potty training.  Between a day at Nana, dad having a day off of school and mom being home all weekend since the USD football game was in Illinois, we were finally home enough to take potty training a bit more serious.  She did great.  She still wears pull-ups to daycare/USD football games (one women's restroom = long lines) but has been keeping it dry.  It's more because mom is worried and not because she can't do it.  She's really good at telling us (mom and dad) when she has to go potty but doesn't always tell others and then it just becomes a guessing game or asking her a million times if she has to go potty.  Of course, she came down with a cold this week that made her cranky and didn't help with training (yesterday didn't go well) but we are happy with the progress she's made this month.  Counting on the other hand… well, we are now at 1, 2, 5, 6. Sometimes 4 is there but there is still some major grudge against 3.  We are leaving it alone, for the most part, knowing it will come.  Some things she does differently this month is that she wakes up in the middle of the night and walks to our bed and prefers to take showers over baths at night. She still likes to watch Mickey Mouse, George and now Wild Kratts. If we are watching football then she thinks every team is the Coyotes and Uncle Josh is playing.  If it's anything else on TV she usually tells us she doesn't like it and "that boring."  She loves to read books and can retell you parts of the stories after you read them.  Her favorite books this month are Secret Pizza Party and Beauty and the Beast.  She also loves to jump on the trampoline with daddy.  She tells mommy every day to go run or run again because she associates that with being able to jump on her trampoline.  She likes to play with legos and marbles, put her train tracks together and play babies.  She also loves to run around the house and be chased.  She knows how to bump a "bol-ley-ball," swing a golf club or baseball bat, kick a soccer ball, shoot a basket,  catch a "bak-et-ball," attempts to dribble and knows how to make the traveling call.  She loves to go to basketball and football games, seriously.  She often tells us "I go to football game to-mor-row" even if it's Monday.  She especially likes USD games and asks to see Sage and Sori.  She knows Sage will full-out tackle her on the football field after the game, but watch out Sage, she told us last night she is "going to tackle him back."  She had a fascination with shadows this month.  She told us they were "cary" (scary.)  It's hard to tell a two-year-old how shadows are made and that they aren't real.  She recognizes and is excited to see her own shadow but does not like to see shadows made by furniture or in the car at night.  Sometimes she wants them to go away, sometimes she tells them "hi," sometimes she wants to give them water, you never know.  She also thinks that strangers are "cary."  She still isn't sure about Uncle Josh and Jacey.  She will go by them but she's pretty skeptical.  Her biggest pet peeve still seems to be anyone who is wet (sweaty).   She is pretty excited that mommy is having a baby and she's pretty good with real babies herself.  She has shown us she is excited and going to be a great big sister when she's been around Myka (our friend's little girl.)  For now, we are enjoying our time with just her.
