Des Moines IMT Marathon

We had a fun weekend in Des Moines with personal bests.  I ran my 7th half marathon and made a personal record finishing almost three minutes faster than my best despite a tight hamstring all week and major cramping that made this particular race an unpleasant run.  My final time was a 1:39:17 with a 7:35 minute mile average.

Wade ran full marathon #3 with big hopes of making Boston Qualifying time.  With his age he had to run the fastest qualifying time there is for Boston.  He needed a 3:05.  We are so proud of him for finishing in 3:04:42 seconds!! This is super exciting and such a big goal to accomplish.  It was also 11 minutes faster than his previous marathon.  This is a pace of a 7:02 minute mile.  The runners for the 2016 Boston Marathon in April have already been chosen since people need time to train.  He can register next September to try and get into the Boston Marathon in 2017.  Unfortunately, just because you make qualifying time does not guarantee your entrance, it only allows you to register in hopes your time is good enough to meet their cap limit of runners.  In the marathon world, making Boston qualifying time and running Boston is the ultimate goal. Wade is 1/2 way there.  For now, we'll keep our fingers crossed, keep training, run more races, and hope to be at Boston 2017!
